He is the One who told us rather that, to follow Him, we must be prepared to give up everything else. As the Gospel witness of the young rich man shows, that is difficult even if Christ Himself is smiling lovingly on you and personally urging you to follow him, may God have mercy on us!; but how much more difficult it is without someone standing in Christ's place who is making the kind of sincere effort to show forth the fullness of the Catholic faith, as you are, Father! We have come through a very sere time in the life of he Church: there is little wonder that the poor sheep huddle round their familiar pens, when so few Shepherds have been sent to them. But the Spirit is moving; and—as has ever been the case—it starts, grows, and communicates itself, from each individual Soul. <br /><br />Your parishioners are so richly blessed to have a shepherd like you! And it is clear that your care for your flock is gaining great increase for our Lord.
